Project 100 aims to plant 100 trees in our community in 2012 and has been developed to redress the balance resulting from Amey’s carbon footprint.

An article in Hereford Civic Society stated Amey had 170 vehicles producing carbon and we decided as a business to do something about it.

The benefits of planting trees are well documented with communal, environmental, social and economic advantages evident. It is generally well known that trees can help to moderate climate, improve air quality, conserve water and harbour wildlife.

Studies into the social benefits of trees have even shown that hospital patients recover from surgery more quickly when their hospital room has a view of trees!

We hope neighbours, communities and schools will come together to plant trees in their playgrounds and community spaces. Schools and community groups are welcome to apply for free trees. Staff from Amey will also be available to assist with planting and advice where needed.

If a community group or school you are involved with would like to benefit from being involved in Project 100 please fill in the attached application form and return to Amey by 29th February 2012. Amey will provide a maximum of five trees per application and applications will be accepted on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Trees can be planted up until the end of March 2012 or from November 2012.

The Woodland Carbon Code is a new voluntary standard for woodland creation projects in the UK which will make claims about the carbon dioxide they sequester. Independent certification to this standard provides assurance and clarity about the carbon savings of these sustainably managed woodlands.
