Make, Do & Mend Cafes

Awards for All are currently funding a series of 'Make Do & Mend Cafes' around Herefordshire in a number of communities. The cafes offer a hands on experience of sustainable lifestyle skills and traditional rural crafts & skills.

Working with our colleagues at The Big Skill, the idea for hands on skilling sessions started during h.Energy 2015 with Make Do & Mend Cafes at Tudorville & District Community Centre (TDCC). Based on the success of these cafes we applied for further funding and are developing regular Make Do & Mend Cafes with TDCC, SHYPP & Norfolk House in Leominster, Hereford Sixth Form College and Kington Community Library.

The craft and sustainability practitioners at our Make Do and Mend Cafes provide a wide range of experiences for local people. To date these have included:

  • Felt making
  • Basket making
  • Chicken keeping
  • Sculpting
  • Clay work
  • Home composting
  • Sewing
  • Home energy advice
  • Cycle repair

... with more to come over the coming months.
