Cycle Hereford

About the group
Group aim:
Since the bicycle is the most efficient machine ever invented, it figures that the status of the bicycle in any given society is an indicator of that society's understanding of energy efficiency and its commitment to sustainability. In the GB as a whole cycling accounts for 2% of trips. In Hereford in the 2001 census it accounted for 9% of trips to work. Theoretical calculations and real world evidence (from Scandinavia and mainland Europe) show that in a NON-carbon constrained world of CHEAP petrol the bicycle could account for 40-50% of urban trips. So, it stands to reason that under business-as-usual, cycling should account for 40-50% of trips in Hereford. And under Carbon Reduction and Transition, much much MORE. Imagine that world! We work for improvements to conditions for cyclists in and around Hereford and organise rides. Check our website and come along on a ride.
Group type:
informal group
Group activity:
Comment on council plans when we can, promote a sound approach to really really expand cycling (in short, safer on road cycling conditions and better cycling skills) and organise cycle rides.
